Events at The Lewers Bequest
There are some interesting events happening at the Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest that you’d be a damned fool to miss.
Tony Lennon
Tony Lennon grafts orchids onto shaped sandstone forms, paying homage to Gerald Lewers’ sculptures and the influence of the Chinese garden form Penjing on Margo Lewers’ garden.
Peter Upward - Frozen Gestures
Australian modernist Peter Upward’s calculated gestures and considered processes contradict the idea that Abstract Expressionism was an art of spontaneous self-expression.
Frozen Gestures will be the first retrospective of this important yet sadly forgotten artist. Often described as the purest of Australia’s abstractionists, this exhibition celebrates Upward as a great artist. The exhibition will feature more than fifty works including paintings, screen prints and posters from the late 1950s through to the early 1980s.
20 October through to 2 December
Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest
86 River Road, Emu Plains NSW 2750

Live Lanes - art & about
The City of Sydney has over 100 small laneways, wedged between high rise buildings and busy streets. At present functioning mostly as shortcuts, the City believes they could become enticing places for outdoor dining, entertainment and art displays - places to escape to at lunch-time or relax after work. As a test run, three lanes will be rejuvenated during Art & About. At night-time, Bulletin Place will become a buzzing laneway bar. Take a walk to the other end of town to check out the art at Albion Place where 30 works by cutting edge artists will line the walls. On your way there, have a look at Temperance Lane which will be awash with coloured lighting
