Junior; celebrating life at the bottom

Junior celebrating life at the bottom banner

It’s almost graduation time, bring out the beer and celebrations, you’ve earned it! But don’t think it’s going to get an easier. Luckily there is a large amount of resources for you out there. I’ve recently been reading some great interviews and advice for all you graduates and young creatives on Junior; celebrating life at the bottom. It’s not going to be all sunshine and lollypops being a junior in any of the creative fields but you will learn a lot, meet awesome people and should even have a good time although at times very challenging. Junior has heaps of advice and articles from big Creatives of all sorts so definitely check it out. The best piece I was given when starting out was “I’d rather be at the bottom of the ladder I want to climb than to be at the top of the ladder I don’t want to climb”.

Design is a Profession!

There is nothing like an annoying client to make you wonder, why am I a designer? But does it have to be that hard? Do you go to a Lawyer than tell them how to do their job or an accountant for that matter? I don’t know, maybe you do but I surely don’t! So why is it that people think they can tell designers how to design, do they have the experience, do they have the knowledge? Don’t get me wrong, clients over the years have given me some insightful opinions but just remember you are still the designer and they are using you for a reason. Great article on design professionalism can be found here!

PMS – No longer embarrassing

Love your PMS.

The Pantone Matching System or PMS is a brilliant way to make sure you are on the same page as your decorator.

There is nothing more embarrassing than handing a customer a garment that has been printed in the wrong blue.

“When you said light blue, you actually wanted more of a cloudy sky blue than a sunny day blue? Oh”…”

Or the wrong shade of any colour. But there is no need to be embarrassed anymore! (more…)

“OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Rip Curl wants to make your unlimited imagination strictly limited.

You create the art, Rip Curl will create the boardshorts just for you.

The call is now out to all talented creatives to design their own unique boardshort art and submit it online to be chosen as part of the Rip Curl Boardshort Collective.

Paint, draw, manipulate, shoot, you have complete creative freedom to create the boardshorts you’ve always wanted.

Boardshorts selected to join the Collective will be made for the artist to keep, displayed in the gallery on the live website and will also be part of a first ever exhibition of The Collective.

If a design isn’t one of those initially chosen for the Collective, it could still be a good chance for inclusion as a Wildcard entry, where online votes pick the final members of the Collective”
