Julie Doye – The Design Doyenne

Wicked pavement artists, Julie Doye, is a woman of many talents most notably her pop-art portraiture style. Inspired by the counter-culture art that emerged in the 1960’s and 1970’s, Julie will be attending the Friends of the Federation event this Friday night at TheClub.

With her work hanging in Paris Hilton’s private collection, she will be our roaming resident artist at the party. Look out for Julie painting 1 minute mini – portraits of our guests in her poppin’ fresh style and be sure you get to sit for the Design Doyenne from 7:30pm onwards.

Just another of the delicious little treats Design Federation will be serving up to our loyal readers and guests at the hottest party of the Chinese New Year!

About Julie
“I have been drawing for as far back as I can remember and nearly always have a pen in my hand. I drew characters for a music magazine in my teens and early twenties and self published mini comic books. I have been painting for about 10 years, have held several solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne and been part of group shows. I have won several prizes for my work including the Drum Media Big Day Art Cover Competition in 2009 and Highly Commended at the Chalk Urban Art Festival in 2008. I have been concentrating on my art career full time for the past year and  among other art ventures have shared my art at several Sydney “art” happenings such as the Dappled Cities “zounds” listening exhibition (which was featured on JTV) and most recently as part of the arts mobile Sydney secret art exhibition at Wynyard Park and train station.”

Julie painted an image of a smiling “Paris Hilton look-a-like” standing by a Nicole Richie double underneath a shared thought-bubble with the word “Bitch” blazoned across it. This painting was purchased by a personal friend of Paris Hilton herself in February 2009 from a solo exhibition. Doye told Design Federation, “The painting was sold to an acquaintance of Paris’  who had bought the painting ( off the wall) as a birthday gift for her which he was flying out to LA to attend the following morning. The friend bought the painting off the wall as a birthday gift for her.”
