For many of us, the opportunity to head out on a cruise with an on-assignment National Geographic photographer for free, sounds like a dream come true. For Sydney resident and aspiring photographer, Anna Zhu, this dream became a reality after she beat some of the world’s best amateur photographers in a scholarship lead by World Nomads and Gap Adventures – www.gapadventures.com.
The scholarship pairs up Anna with Jason Edwards – renowned worldwide “for his extreme efforts and absolute commitment to obtaining rare and amazing photographs” – and puts them on-assignment in Antarctica, where Anna will expand her portfolio in one of the world’s most remote locations.
Out of the 1050 applications received from across the world, it was the photos of Anna’s grandparents in and around their small flat in Campsie, NSW which impressed the team at World Nomads and Jason Edwards the most, who described the set as having ‘no weak images that I would have removed, no chinks in the armour so to speak’.
Anna will fly to Ushuaia, Argentina on the 10th February, to begin her assignment on the 1st March, where she will board Gap Adventures’ M/S Expedition on a 13 day assignment.
