Lang Leav from Akina spent eight weeks investigating the underground fashion subcultures in Japan as part of her Churchill Fellowship award. Cosplaying Lolita (www.akina.com.au) is the result of her findings and explores themes of romance, deception and make-believe surrounding the two spectacular fashion styles.

Conor O’Brien was recently referred to as one of the country’s ”˜best, most interesting and certainly most promising’ young photographers by the Associate Curator of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Dr Robert Cook. In October and November 2008, Black & Blue Gallery will host O’Brien’s most recent body of work, There Stands The Glass.
To celebrate the launch of their new website Peak Street Magazine, in partnership with Adidas Originals, proudly present the “Sleep is the Cousin of Death” exhibition. This group show at Per Square Metre features work by some of Australia’s most infamous graf writers, illustrators, designers & other assorted art delinquents.
The theme of the show is inspired by the classic Nas Illmatic-era lyric ”˜Sleep is the Cousin of Death’ and the canvasses that each artist has to work with are two old vinyl LP’s.
