Brisbane Semi-Permanent Review

Brisbane Semi-Permanent Review

I trooped off with yet another group of students this year to see the Brisbane Semi-Permanent extravaganza. Unlike Sydney’s two-day speaker fest, we only get one day up here, but boy are we grateful for this one day. They’ve been running in Brisbane for three years now and every year ...

iPad cover protection – Recycled sleeves from Haul

Fitzroy designers haul have launched a range of iPad sleeves and folios made from ‘upcycled’ print blankets [what?].
The rubber blankets are salvaged from the off-set printing process leaving each case with a unique ink impression from the last print run, maybe it was a wine label a newspaper or a mag.
Rugged exerior, soft felt lined underbelly.

“The irony of the iPad cases being made from the remnants of the printing industry is not lost on us.” haul designer Scott Kilmartin

Crawl for the Artist-Run-Initiative

Crawl was started in January 2007 by Nicholas Hudson-Ellis in response to a need within the Artist-Run-Initiative (ARI) community for a new type of arts organisation. An organisation that exists to promote ARIs and the artists who they exhibit.

In the world of the commercial art galleries, there is an abundance of press coverage and cash to go around. But within the ARI community, the very group of people who need the most support, and indeed who produce the most engaging and avant-garde work there is limited support.
