With such focus on the environment these days, Shaughla Ahmad from Swap My Style looks to have the future “sewn up”

What is your name and where are you located
My name is Shaughla Ahmad. I am based in Sydney Australia

Tell us how you came up with the concept?
Growing up with two sisters, swapping and sharing clothes with each other is quite common. Our styles are so different; I think that’s what makes it so great. I have access to three amazing wardrobes.
The idea of swapping and sharing with my sisters got me thinking about how many more people out there like to swap fashion items. Imagine being able to pick an outfit from more than three wardrobes.
Swap My Style has evolved from a group of sisters and friends organising social fashion swaps to a much anticipated fashion event for over 200 women.

Is it just for women?
Swap My Style will launch its first event on the 20th Feb 2008. The events are for both men and women. Down the track Swap My Style will host specific tailored events to suit

Where did you work before this idea?
After completing my business degree, I worked within the corporate banking sector for a number of years. I have always loved everything fashionable and stylish!

What are your favourite labels?
I love supporting local talent! Hussy, Nicola Finetta and Lisa Ho are some of my favourites. You can’t go wrong with a sweater set from Pink Zebra. I love anything Chloe, Phillip Lim 3.1 and Marc Jacobs.

Can one have too many clothes?
Over the years I have realised that it is not about quantity, it is all about finding quality pieces! But you can never have too many clothes!

What motivates you to succeed?
Growing up, I have always known that I will have my own business. It has never been about the money, it is about providing a product/service that adds value and makes a difference!

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?
My hope and dream is that Swap My Style will be up and running across Australia and New Zealand.

Can you let us in on any trade secrets?
Never give up! If you believe in something, go for it. Always surround yourself with people that motivate and support you. Never be afraid to ask for help.
