Interview with Katerina Roth
Some people are scared of the dark, and everything that requires artificial lighting, but for Katerina Roth, The darkness is not only for vampires, but a place where magic can happen.

What is your name and where are you located
Katerina Roth and i can be found walking around in the dark with a camera.
Where did you learn your craft?
i started taking photos when i was six, stealing my grandparents camera whenever they weren’t looking, then at school, tech and all the usual places.
What gear are you using?
My weapon of choice at the moment is a nikon d200. i have a bunch of cameras, a rolleicord, yashica and a few other items that ive been neglecting, as ive gone over to the darkside
(digital) and i dont think ill be going back for awhile. i really respect photographers that are still using film, as i just dont have the patience.
Have you always been focused in this particular area?
Anything creative gets me, ive dipped my fingers in about everything, but photography allows me to say what i want better then anything else.

Whose work do you relate to most? Who inspires you?
i guess it depends on what im working on, i have lots of favorites.
For my current obsession night photography, it would have to be Gregory Crewdson and i know every photographer says bill henson, so add me to that list.
Do you enjoy collaboration work?
of course, but its difficult finding the right mix of people… im always on the lookout.

How do you think/want other people to respond to your art?
to be able to escape to my little world for a moment or two.
How do you measure your level of success/achievement?
to be happy with what ive just finished working on, before moving on to the next thing.
Can you let us in on any trade secrets?
not really secrets, just lifesavers, masking tape and bulldog clips, the amount of times they have saved the day…
