First Bill Henson, Now Polixeni Papapetrou
Art Monthly Australia has created some controversy this month with their latest issue featuring a naked girl on the cover.
Given that Bill Henson’s Photographs were given a G rating by the classification office, what are we to make of these new images by Polixeni Papapetrou?
According to Dr Martin Jolley, who is head of photography at the Australian National University and co-authors an article in this months Art Monthly about Bill Henson
“We aren’t going to let the tabloid media … dictate what we can and can’t show and we are not going to let politicians, who are always wanting to jump on populist bandwagons dictate what we can and can’t show.”
Someone needs to tell that to Morris Dilemma.

The girl just looks like a cherub, why is there so much hysteria over it?
I don’t think Henson is going to thank her, Oz is looking at ‘Bill Henson’ legislation, to protect kids from ‘Bill Henson’. I think Bill has been stabbed in the back by a married critic grenade.
Henson’s ‘world’ career was already over.
I wonder if wearing the cover of the magazine on a tshirt will invoke a $5000 fine? :)
time for my federal member peter garrett to go into hiding again?
I hear that Ray Hadley has been giving his 2cents this morning on radio.. thats all we need, unedumacated fools jumping into the argment. Stick to 10-4 Big Buddy Ray!
Worth a thousand words…

The Japanese kiddie porn franchise is expanding into other media.
I smell anti-Henson legislation, the AFP are telling their foreign coleagues CP just got decriminalized.
I always said these creeps were regular pro-pedophiles, no art to it, just pedos.

I’m offended by Rudd, says girl in latest nudity storm
Sydney Morning Herald, Australia – 2 hours ago
“The little girl is in there along with bondage images, including one of a Japanese schoolgirl in school uniform trussed up in rope while another image …
looks like peter garretts got a pair of balls as big as my cat (which has been de-sexed)
From todays SMH…
“The federal Minister for Arts, Peter Garrett, who has described the publication of the photos as “needlessly provocative”, said the Government would call on the Australia Council to devise a set of protocols addressing the use of images of children in art and publications that receive government funding.”
oh by the way Pete!
no more pix of you with school kids in your federal newsletter…it offends me! ;P
geez, pete
“its better to die on your feet than to live on your knees”
ambiguity is the right to be a pedo.. I mean a top artist in Oz.
There’s no doubt these photographs are highly staged. To some adult interpretations they could be seen as bondage images, but then they could also be about the imaginative play that children engage in. The point is that they explore ambiguities in an artistic context, the type of ambiguities which are exploited everywhere in all types of media, particularly advertising. Why is noone bothered by little girls posing in adult-styled clothing in sexualised ways in catalogues? What about Barbie and Total Girl magazine which regularly features sexualised content and is pitched at girls as young as six? All in the name of consumerism eh?
Naked and a necklace? You’ve got that down to 6 years old, change the named of your country, Van Pedo Land.
Tazia why are you so down on Bill Henson your personal vendetta makes me think you must be an ex-girlfriend.
