Culture Warriors – A Nine Part Indigenous Arts Showcase

NITV presents Culture Warriors, a nine part series demonstrating the incredible range of contemporary Indigenous art practices and the world-renowned artists that create them, in an exclusive premiere on Sunday 12 July @ 7.30pm.
Culture Warriors, hosted and curated by celebrated Indigenous artist and curator Brenda Croft, features the work of twenty seven world-renowned Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from every state and territory of Australia.
This polished program demonstrates the incredible range of contemporary Indigenous art practices including painting on bark and canvas, sculpture, textiles, weaving, new media, photo media, print making and installation. It also features insightful interviews with the artists and a unique look into the fascinating world of Indigenous arts and culture.
After huge success at the National Gallery of Australia the remarkable exhibition of Culture Warriors will open to American audiences in Washington this September.
Culture Warriors draws inspiration from the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum and pays specific tribute to a core group of artists whose careers span the four decades since the Referendum: Jean Baptiste Apuatimi, Phillip Gudthaykudthay, John Mawurndjul, Lofty Bardayal Nadjamerrek AO and Arthur Koo’ekka Pambegan Jr
NITV is broadcast free to air in various metropolitan and regional areas nationally, as well as via Channel 180 on Foxtel, Austar and Optus. Please refer to the website for full tune in details – www.nitv.org.au
