TRACKSUITS OF ST MARYS – Photographic exhibition by Harold David

A collection of photographs by renowned fashion photographer, Harold David.
…All about tracksuits and the people who wear them.
Understated, affordable, always appreciated and often cherished – this is an exhibition all about the tracksuit, the sweat-suit, the leisure-suit, their separates, and the people who wear them. It is a collection of 70 photographs by esteemed Sydney photographer, Harold David, showing at CarriageWorks 8 – 29 August.

Featuring the gracious and hard-working people of St Marys, the exhibition is a tender and honest portrait of the Western Sydney community, and an exploration of the social history of the tracksuit – from its practical function as sportswear and its adaptation by radical hip hop artists like Snoop Dog, to its subversive journey into the designer-filled wardrobes of celebrities. The tracksuit is also an accepted signifier of criminality, sloth and depression –motifs that also come through in this poignant exhibition.

I love the idea of this exhibition! And from this short post displaying the images and motive behind it, it sounds truly intriguing and fun. Most certainly an untapped subject.
I only wish I was in Sydney to see it!
