Designed for us, by us, Justus Magazine is proud to present the print community with its very own unparalleled design bible. With an advent of digital inspiration showcases overloading the radar, the Justus team believes it’s time for those with a passion for print to receive their very own touchable design guide.
Reaching out to design studios, freelancers, students and creative suppliers from around Australia, Justus provides a tactile journey into the world of paper stocks, typography and print techniques. The journal will feature 128-pages of stunning design, with sections dedicated to feature articles, client interviews and design trends.
Justus will include a 60-page special report (titled Flourish), profiling the work of 10 of the country’s finest designers, plus a devoted student section along with a supplier/classifieds directory.
“I love our industry, I love design and I love print. I have been privileged to have chosen a life career that makes me happy and satisfied every day,” explains Justus founder Lindsay Smith. “So, I have decided to dedicate my time and energy into putting something amazing back and building a stronger design community,” says Smith. “Community is forged by a common unity – ours is design, so let that be the foundation from which we build stronger relationships.”
The team behind Justus Magazine defines the journal as a way to celebrate exceptional craftsmanship with the strong belief that there is a modern resurgence in paper arts.
The rise of digital has pushed print design to the margins but the Justus team takes heart in the D.I.Y renaissance of traditional craft that has spread through the creative world.
Typography is gaining attention on the mainstream radar plus letterpress and screenprinting are being rediscovered, proving that both creatives and society are craving a hands-on, sensory experience that resists the on-screen disposable culture in which we inhabit.
With strong support from printers, paper merchants, creative studios, freelance designers, design colleges and specialty service suppliers, united by a common love for print design, the journal endeavours to forge a community amoung all print creatives.
“Australian design needs a movement towards unity,” says Justus editor Estelle Pigot. “We want small business to thrive. If you don’t want your favourite printer or book-binder to close shop, then don’t keep his business a secret.”
Justus has brought on board the former editor of Australian Creative, Larissa Meikle, who is championing the ‘Flourish’ section of the magazine.
Deliberately flattening the hierarchy between studios, agencies and freelancers, Flourish allows the work to stand alone and speak for itself. The showcase has been created as an opportunity to shine a light on quality work without indulging in competitive attitudes. For more information visit
