Come Out 2007

Come Out is South Australia’s celebration of the arts by and for children and young people and an invitation to children and young people to view the arts made by professional artists and to get involved as artists themselves.

Festivals are about putting normal life on hold and trying new experiences in an adventurous way!

The program explores the 2007 Festival theme:
The Universal Story.

American performer, David Roche, himself a veteran of the High Beam Festival here in Adelaide, says:

“A story is not words. It is about imagination and relationship. In its final form, a story is fundamentally a stirring in the hearts, minds and imaginations of the audience.”

The Universal Story asks questions about the reasons we tell stories.

Come Out 2007 has been developed in consultation with educators, artists and young people, who responded to the theme with ideas about the function of stories in their lives, with beautiful images of hearing and being told stories as young children and with rich views about how diverse cultures make sense of human experiences, by turning them into stories.

On behalf of the Festival team I am delighted to introduce you to a powerful and very festive program. Our stories are biographical, autobiographical, historical, documentary, contemporary and classical, told through dance, theatre, film, music, literature, visual arts and design.

See the Festival Program for details of a feast of performances, screenings, exhibitions, arts events and participatory creative activities - many of which are FREE – and see you at Come Out 2007!
