Heidi and Seek - ethical womens clothing

heidi and seek is the brainchild of Hayley Lau, who learned just how massive exploitation and environmental damage in the fashion industry is. She became disheartened, and then decided to counter the problem. Each garment is handmade by Hayley from factory cast-offs, vintage or second-hand materials.

She is uninterested in fad trends and fashion seasons that are tossed and replaced before you can say “gladiator sandals”. heidi and seek garments are wearable, quirky and non-conforming. Each is a one-off or very limited edition so get your hands on one in the satisfaction that you won’t see anyone wearing the same thing as you. Your conscience will love you for it.

When Emailing Lists Go Off - The Law isnt the ass its you

I’m sure almost all of you would be on a mailing list of some sort, it’s unavoidable these days. It is the no-brainer PR tool of our era. When most people spend their working day sending and receiving, the easiest way for websites to target their market directly by getting you when you’re guard is down at the counter of your favourite store or at the door of a nightclub. It seems harmless enough at the time to scribble down your email address, but in fact you are soliciting a potential floodgate. Continue Reading ►

Designer Rugs - The Rug Project

Designer Rugs together with Virginia Wilson has invited seven of Australia’s leading contemporary artists to create single edition wall and floor rugs that both extend their art practice and broaden the style of rugs produced by Designer Rugs, for a live charity auction in August.

Artists in The Rug Project are Shaun Gladwell (recently selected to represent Australia at the next Venice Biennale), Newell Harry, Clinton Nain, Hossein Valamanesh, Justin Trendall, Kirsteen Pieterse and Gemma Smith.

This sounds like a great idea, and it will be very interesting to see the final works by the artists. While on the topic of rugs, another page that is really worth a look is Rugs Of War which “is a project which investigates the history, iconography, production and distribution of “the war rug”.
