Whose shout is it anyhow?

Recently an “Australian” alcohol brand created a project in which artists are asked to submit designs for a paper bag, (The type of paperbags used to cover their bottles of wine). The project is to promote a new drink the company has, which one could assume will be aimed at the youth market.
How does it work? Well, you submit your designs and they are judged, then you win all sorts of sexy prizes if you come out the other side on top.
This seems to be a bit of a trend recently with big corporations such as Piza Hut and Nikee are both doing similiar art related competitions, which makes you wonder who was first, and who jumped on the wagon.
Anyhow, we know Australia is a small country, but we are very talented in many fields here, and you often wonder why we need to pull in a big international star to make something seem exciting (think of that actor from friends at the logies a few years ago, he “rocked”)
Ok, if we cant make something like this happen on our own so lets pull the big star to get the kids excited, and who do they decide to pull in? None other than this person, and there is no need to tell you anything about him, you can read it all yourself on that page.
The question is this, why couldn’t they have chosen another local artist? If they wanted one with a political edge we have more than enough here doing Fantastic work, one only need think of the likes of Ben Frost etc.

They selected my entry and I was stoked, I’m just a 20yo Syd graphic design student who did a quick sketch of the view from Semi-Permanent, overlooking Sydney Harbour. I think this is probably the first anything I’ve ever done that’s made it onto some large companies website - so it’s not all big stars =)
Mines down the bottom of the gallery (01.05.08). In a way I am dissapointed though, clearly people have taken their work home and used other mediums than the sharpies supplied at SP, I did mine in a lunch break and submitted it right there - just like I thought everyone else would.
